Ten cattle killed by lightening strike
Ten cattle have been killed on a farm in Butlersbridge following lightening which occurred in the county yesterday evening.
A photo, seen by the Anglo-Celt, shows ten cattle lying in a field in the area at around 8pm yesterday evening.
The lightening struck the earth which killed the cattle.
County Chair of the IFA Maurice Brady confirmed the news to the Celt: "It's a big tragedy for the farmer involved."
"Lightening has struck," he said, adding that the event is a "big loss" for the farmer.
"It's one of these freak ones and it's a big big loss to the farmer involved.
"Hopefully it doesn't happen anyone else," he warned.
Senator Sarah O'Reilly (Aontú), who sits on the Agricultural Panel, described the incident as "an unbelievable freak event."
"For that kind of an event to happen any person is shocking."
"The cost financially and emotionally to a farmer who spends his time looking after his herd, his cattle, his stock. To go into the field and see something like that must have been just gutting."
"I hope he gets compensation in some way to cover the cost because that would be a huge cost for any farmer."
