€15K raised for four charities in annual Mullahoran Walk
In its 19th year, the Mullahoran Annual Walk raised €15,000 for charities in the local community. Rose Dalton from the organising committee was delighted to announce this year’s amount at the recent presentation night.
Every May Bank Holiday, children, teenagers, adults and senior citizens come together for this charitable fun day out in the community. All in all, more than 120 people participated this year. Whether they were running or walking the 5k or 14k, they all enjoyed the BBQ at the finish line at The Hideaway Bar. The money was raised through sponsorship cards, sponsors and local donations.
As always, a donation was made towards the Cavan Dialysis Unit, a facility not only precious to Rose Dalton, who received a kidney transplant 20 years ago, but also to other members of the community who rely on dialysis on a weekly basis. The unit received a contribution of €6,000 from the annual walk.
In memory of the Trevor O’Reilly from Cloncovid, who passed away a year ago, a donation was also made towards the Irish Heart Foundation. Trevor’s family members were presented with the cheque for €6,000 by the committee. The Irish Kidney Association and Transplant Sport Ireland each received €1,500.
Over the past 19 years, the annual walk has raised the incredible sum of €230,704 and has been helping more than 20 different charities throughout this time.
“Because the raised amount was so high this year, we were able to support more charities that we have a connection to,” said a thankful Rose.
All charities are chosen by the organising committee or from suggestions coming from the general community.
In addition to Rose, long-standing committee members include Grainne Lovett, Mary Sullivan, Gary O'Reilly, Aodghan Cullen, Donie Harten, Ann Cadden and Breda Lynch.
