Cavan success at media festival
There was plenty of local success at the recent Celtic Nations Media Festival, with two Cavan directors taking home prizes.
Virginia's Alan Brady scooped the title of 'Single Documentary' for 'Patrick A Young Traveller Lost' at the prestigious annual three-day summit, which combines a major conference of seminars and masterclasses with the presentation of the coveted Torc award for excellence.
Alan also appeared at the festival, held this year in Corwall, to speak about the making of his most recent documentary series 'Bad Nanny'. The programme currently sits at number one on the RTE Player rankings for the past two weeks, making it already one of the most watched programmes of the year.
Alan won the Young Director Award for Documentary at Cannes 2024.
Another local name was Belturbet's Kevin McCann, who picked up an award for Sniper Joe and Sister Jim, a full-length radio play performed by Tina Kellegher (Ballykissangel, Fair City), Mikel Murfi (Jimmy’s Hall, Barabas), Geri Maye (The Den, Winning Streak), Pat Deery (Exiled in Ireland) and Séamus McRory.
The play was penned by Seamus McRory and this is the third time he worked with Kevin, who last wrote/directed the award-winning radio series ‘Coma’ for Newstalk.
Another of Kevin's productions, Volkswagen Joe, won 'Best Drama' at the Celtic Nations Media Festival previously.
