Over €300K in funding for local community groups

Funding totalling €306,792 has been allocated to dozens of local community groups across counties Cavan and Monaghan.

The allocations were confirmed yesterday by Minister Dara Calleary under this year's Local Enhancement Programme.

This small scale funding will enable community groups to carry out minor improvement works, purchase IT equipment and can also help to meet ongoing operational costs.

The allocations ranged from €200 to almost €5,000 per project.

The biggest allocations in County Cavan went to the Ballyhaise Development Association, Ballyjamesduff Community Council, Cuan Cancer Social Support, Killeshandra Community Council, Swanlinbar Development Association and Tullacmonghan Resource Centre. They will each benefit from €4,750.

Fianna Fáil Deputy Brendan Smith has welcomed the allocations.

"We are very fortunate to have such a vibrant and progressive community spirit throughout Cavan and Monaghan and the facilities that have been developed over the years play an important role in the everyday lives of local residents.

"I wish all the groups continued success with their work and I will be glad to continue to support their efforts in providing enhanced and indeed additional facilities and amenities for the benefit of our local communities," he said.
