Monaghan student to present popular radio show
A MONAGHAN student will present the University of Limerick’s popular radio show.
Monaghan student Laura McMahon, from Tullycorbet, Ballybay will present the second Ar Bhruach na Sionainne programme, which airs next Tuesday 8 July at 1.30pm on Raidió na Gaeltachta.
Laura has just completed her first year of the bachelor of Irish Music course in the University of Limerick. She grew up in a very musical family - her father is a music teacher and Laura started playing music at the age of 4.
The new series of Ar Bhruach na Sionainne, the music and chat show presented by students from the University of Limerick was back on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta from Tuesday.
The seven-part series showcases traditional music, performed and presented by the students themselves. In each programme, we’ll hear music and songs from a selection of students, and the programme will be presented by a new student each week.
Laura explains how she first starter her musical journey by learning the tin whistle and then went to learn the piano accordion, piano and fiddle.
Laura was part of Music Generation Orchestras as a youngster, conducted by Michael Rooney and performed in venues such as the National Concert Hall in Dublin.
She has been part of Tullycorbet CCÉ from a very young age and has taken part in Fleadhs and Feises throughout the years. She holds two Ulster Titles on the piano accordion and piano and two All Ireland medals on the piano accordion.
Laura will be accompanied by musicians including: Terri Byrnes (flute), Alex Gregg (whistle), Edel Hand (singing, accordion and guitar), Julie Taylor (flute & saxophone), Samantha O’Sullivan (fiddle), Ciara Geaney (piano).
