New principal at Loreto College

John Galligan has been confirmed as the new principal of Loreto College in Cavan Town.

The Kilnavara man previously taught at The Royal School where he was also acting deputy principal from 2017 to 2019.

More recently, he served as deputy principal and acting principal at Wilson’s Hospital School in Multyfarnham.

Now living in Ballyhaise with his wife and their three children, an online post from Loreto College says: “John brings a wealth of experience, a strong focus on student wellbeing, and a clear passion for fostering a positive, inclusive, and forward-looking school environment.”

Mr Galligan received his secondary education at St Patrick’s College, Cavan. He went on to earn a BSc in Applied Biology from the University of East London, followed by a Higher Diploma in Education from UCD. He also holds a Masters in Science Education from the University of Manchester and a Masters in School Leadership from NUI Maynooth.

Loreto College says the staff are “thrilled” to welcome John Galligan into their school community and “look forward to the journey ahead under his leadership”.
