Keenan directs Kneecap video

Kneecap has released a new music video directed by Cavan filmmaker Finn Keenan.

The video for ‘The Recap’ charts the commotion behind the band’s recent appearance on the Main Stage at Glastonbury. At the time of going to print on Tuesday The Recap featuring Mozey had only been posted on Youtube one day and had already garnered 66k views; as of Thursday morning the views had jumped to 124K.

The Belfast rap trio hit the headlines last month when Mo Chara (Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh) was charged under British terrorism legislation. The charge - which many people on both sides of the Irish Sea view as politically motivated and a distraction from the UK’s complicity in the Gaza genocide - saw a huge crowd of supporters gather outside Westminster Magistrates’ Court on June 18. Mr Ó hAnnaidh has denied the allegations saying it is intended to “silence” the group.

He is alleged to have held a flag in support of Hezbollah at a gig at a North London show on November 21 last year.

This charge follows their much publicised appearance at Coachella in which the stage backdrop included projections accusing Israel of committing genocide in Palestine, enabled by the US government. This again divided opinion along political lines.

'Recap' featuring Mozey is typical of Kneecap’s high octane gaeilge-infused rap and the video directed by Finn Keenan is similarly pacey, inter-cutting live footage with animated figures, news headlines and quotes from British politicians. The video ends with the band leading tens of thousands of Glastonbury revellers in chants of ‘Free Free Palestine!’
