Wool and verse at Museum
‘Spoken in Fibre’, a new exhibition of wool art by Sandra Coote, inspired by the poems of Charles J Coote, opens at Cavan County Museum, Ballyjamesduff on Thursday, July 31, at 7:30pm.
Sandra Coote, a traditional artist originally from County Longford, has found a unique way to honour her heritage, by illustrating the poetry of her husband Alan Coote’s great grandfather, Charles J. Coote, using the wool from their own flock of sheep.
Raised on a farm, Sandra’s deep connection to the land has always been a source of inspiration. Now living and working alongside her husband Alan, she draws on generations of rural life to create deeply personal artwork that bridges the past and the present.
Her latest body of work combines Charles J. Coote’s evocative poems – rich with reflection on his life and the countryside – with handcrafted wool illustrations made from wool from the sheep that graze the very land that Charles once walked.
Sandra’s artistry weaves together memory, legacy, and landscape, offering a heartfelt tribute to Irish rural traditional and the enduring stories they inspire.
The exhibition will open until Saturday, August 23.
