Castleblayney to celebrate first ever pride weekend
Castleblayney is set to celebrate it's first ever LGBT+ Pride weekend from July 18–20.
Organisers have described the event as a "landmark moment" in the summer calendar for the Monaghan town.
They say the weekend promises a "vibrant, inclusive, and joyful series of events, bringing the local community together in celebration of diversity, equality, and belonging."
The celebration will begin on Friday evening with the official launch in Castleblayney Library, featuring a special guest to mark the "historic occasion" and set the tone for the weekend.
On Saturday morning, the community is invited to a coffee morning at Crafty, Muckno Street, running from 10am to 12pm, offering a relaxed space for connection, conversation, and celebration.
Saturday evening features a special production of The Bród, The Bold & The Beautiful at the Íontas Theatre, showcasing "powerful stories" from the LGBTQ+ community with "heart, humour and pride."
Tickets are €17 or €15 concession and are available via the Íontas box office or website.
The weekend finishes off on a high on Sunday 20 July, with a Family Fun Day from 2pm to 6pm in the Lower Commons car park. This lively afternoon hosted by MC Eddie McGuinness and will include circus performers, children’s face painting and live entertainment from local singers and musicians.
“This weekend isn’t just a celebration, it’s a declaration,” said a spokesperson for the organising committee.
“It’s about making Castleblayney a place where everyone feels seen, supported and proud to be who they are. We’re proud to host the town’s first Pride, and we hope it’s the start of a lasting tradition.”
All events are family-friendly, and most are free to attend, with the exception of Saturday evening’s ticketed performance.
