WATCH: Community thanks club caretaker retiring after 33 years
Stalwart praised for this dedication to community and club life.
Sean Smith is rendered momentarily “speechless” by the reception he receives from the dozens of well-wishers gathered at Crosserlough GFC's Dr Plunkett Memorial Park.
They're there to to honour a key figure behind the scenes- Sean, a CE worker who is set to retire from his role of caretaker after 33 years dedicated service.
On voluntary basis he has also acted as PRO, as treasurer, and currently runs the club's weekly Lotto.
Without people like Sean, Crosserlough GFC Club Chairman Adrian O'Reilly says, there “would be no club”.
“He's been an incredible servant to the club, and there is more just like him, who've give years of lives, time and effort, to making Crosserlough GAA what it is, not just on the pitch, but off it as well.”
Expressing his gratitude, Sean told those in attendance: “We're altogether in the one community. It doesn't matter where you come from. You have to all work together in the long run because we're only here a few years. We must help each other.”
