The Prodigals Return (with original NYC lineup)

American Irish punk band will perform with the original New York city line-up

The Prodigals return later this evening when the original band line-up plays The Widow’s bar in Belturbet.

For the first time in nearly two decades, the American Irish punk band will perform with the original New York city line-up- a reunion that’s been a long time coming.

Founded in 1996, this trio represents one of the most iconic iterations of the band’s historic musical journey, fusing cross-Atlantic Irish traditional roots with the gritty pulse of the Big Apple.

Band founding member Gregory Grene accordion and vocals is a familiar face in the lively Cavan trad scene over the years.

Tonight he will line out alongside Eamon Ellams on drums- originally from Liverpool and a stalwart of the band for around 20 years- and they'll be joined by Michael Lewis from South Carolina on guitar and vocals.

To give a sense of the distance travelled to make this gig happen: Grene's GPS tossed up a reminder that the “commute” from the band's old haunt Paddy Reilly’s in New York to The Widow’s in Belturbet clocks at about 3,000 miles each way.

“That’s quite the road trip,” he says- but for this night, it’s more than worth it.
