Stylish win for Corlismore

A stylish Hereford heifer that has everything you look for in an animal won the Overall award for Best in Show for cattle at Arva Show on Sunday.

As Kerry celebrated winning Sam on the big screen, away from the crowds, Gary McKiernan was leading his two year old prize winning heifer into a trailer. Gary was satisfied after a good day’s work.

Before claiming the overall Show Champion, the heifer with the name ‘Corlismorepoll 1 Sydney 233’ had already been awarded the rosettes as Hereford champion and overall pedigree champion.

“This is her fourth outing and she’s won the four,” says Sean of his heifer that had already won at Mullingar, Granard, and Oldcastle. “She’s very stylish, she’s very showy.”

The Corlismore herd belongs to Evelyn and Sean McKiernan.

Alan Crowe, secretary of the Irish Hereford Breed Society, described her as “a smashing animal”.

“She’s stylish, she stands with a great presence. She stands tall and correct, with a leg in each corner - exactly what you want from a cow.

Sean is looking forward to bringing her down to the nationals in Tullamore.

“You wouldn’t know what would happen in Tullamore,” he says with a laugh of acceptance that some things are beyond your control.
