Power restored to all Cavan customers affected by Storm Floris
Earlier today, 1,143 properties in County Cavan lost power as Storm Floris spread across the country
ALL PROPERTIES in Co Cavan who found themselves without power for a time this afternoon have had their electricity supply restored.
According to ESB Networks 1,143 customers in Co Cavan were without electricity for about an hour and a quarter today.
The Powercheck.ie website says the fault was reported at 1:17pm but that crews had power restored to all affected properties by 14:32.
Nationally, 10,000 homes and businesses lost power as Storm Floris hit Ireland in the early hours of Monday morning with Status Yellow wind and rain warnings in place from 2am until 4pm for coastal counties in Connacht and Ulster.
Winds peaked slightly below 100kmh off the north Galway coast.
Most power outages were caused by fallen trees - with councils and ESB Networks officials concerned that the powerful storm was hitting at precisely the time trees were most vulnerable while heavily laden with leaves.
A statement from national energy provider said: "ESB Networks can confirm that as of 5pm, approximately 2700 homes, farms and businesses across the country are without power.
"Crews will continue to work late into this evening with a view to restoring supply to the vast majority of impacted customers by tonight.
"We apologise to all homes, farms and businesses impacted for the inconvenience caused."
ESB reminds the public that fallen electricity wires are live and dangerous.
“Never approach or touch them but call our emergency service immediately on 1800 372 999 or (+353 21 2382410),” an online post by ESB advises.
