In the dark in Mountnugent

There's been a call for public lighting on the Ross Road at Mountnugent. “I think we are the only village in Cavan with no lighting," lamented Cllr Noel Connell (SF), adding that people are forced to "walk in the dark".

“It would be our aspiration that we have lighting where we have footpaths,” added Cllr Trevor Smith (FG).

Area engineer, John McGahern, confirmed there is no budget for the set-up, maintenance and repair of new lights.

Cllr Connell replied: “It’s tough when you’re told there is no funding.
