Adrian Martin and his new wife Maria on their wedding day in Bordeaux with best man Kai.

French toast for Chef Adrian and his bride!

TV chef Adrian Martin from Bawnboy has married his fiancée Maria Merriman, with their son Kai as best man, in an intimate ceremony in France.

The wedding took place in the Notre Dame Church in Bordeaux, known for its striking Baroque architecture and intricate interior detail.

Finding a catholic Irish-speaking priest to conduct the ceremony was difficult, but after some searching, the happy couple came across 88-year-old Father John Hennessy from Castlepollard, who has been living in France for the last 60 years.

The reception was in the Grand Hotel, also known as the Intercontinental Hotel, and with 90 people travelling over from Ireland and abroad.

“I felt really nervous at that point but absolutely delighted that she came and relieved but really emotional.

“Probably the best day I have had in my life, that and obviously the day Kai was born,” an ecstatic Adrian told the Celt.

Maria, who is from Churchtown in Dublin, looked radiant in a luxurious ball gown-style dress that featured a structured, strapless sweetheart neckline, with intricate lace appliqué detail.

The dress, which is called the 'Maya' gown, is by Pallas Couture. Her veil, a long, cathedral-length piece, was adorned with subtle lace and was from Irish designer Anna O'Veils in Dundrum.

Fabulous food

Being a top chef, Adrian was sure to ensure that the food was nothing but the best for his guests.

“We moved into the Margery’s Suite for food by Gordon Ramsay's two-Michelin-star restaurant called the Le Pressoir d'Argent, one of his flagship restaurants. They are aiming for three stars, but oh my god, the food was some of the best food I have ever eaten, and I am so glad we got to do it at our wedding,” Adrian told this newspaper.

Adrian, Maria and Kai are back in Bawnboy for the rest of the summer enjoying the good weather in west Cavan.
