Man in 20s dies in workplace accident in Kingscourt
Second workplace accident to happen in town in past week
A man has died following a workplace accident at a manufacturing premises in Kingscourt.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene shortly before midday today (Wednesday, August 27) where the man, aged in his 20s, had suffered injury.
He was subsequently transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment, but subsequently passed away there.
The Health and Safety Authority has been notified of the incident, confirming to The Anglo-Celt that it is “aware of the fatal incident” and has now launched an investigation in to the circumstances.
A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana attended the scene along with other emergency services.
They confirmed: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a workplace accident at a premises in Kingscourt, Co Cavan, on Wednesday 27th August at approximately 11:50am.
“A man, aged in his 20s, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Co Louth, where he has since been pronounced deceased.
“The Health and Safety Authority has been notified.”
The garda spokesperson concluded by saying that a file will now be prepared for the Coroner’s Court.
It is the second workplace accident reported to have happened in Kingscourt in the past week.
Last Thursday a man was airlifted to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin following an incident which occurred when pallets were being loaded onto a trailer.
The man is understood to be recovering in hospital from his injuries.
