Arden Broadband fundraiser for MSF

Sitting at the kitchen table with his wife Sandra, listening to the radio hearing about Gaza and the Ukraine and over the years other catastrophes all over the world, made them think about how they could contribute. “We wanted to feel less helpless,” explains Barry Wilson of their motivation for starting a fundraiser on iDonate.

“As individuals we can’t do much,” says the Belturbet man and he knows many people feel the same way. “In a world full of anguish, we want to help and do something helpful.” So they decided to make an appeal and collect money for Medicine Sans Frontieres (MSF). “An impartial, transparant organisation, everyone knows.” MSF bring urgent medical and maternity aid to over 70 countries worldwide, in conflict zones, epidemics and natural disasters.

“They’re in the field, they’re doing the job, they give the help, we want to give,” says Barry. He has published a video explaining the cause, shared on social media. “It’s a simple appeal,” says the business man. “We want to give people the opportunity to help. Not by organising an event, just asking people to give what they can.”

Through the idonate-page they hope to raise €5,000 by the end of September. His company Arden Broadband vows to contribute an extra 10% of that.

Barry knows, in the grand scheme of things, it might not be a lot, but it will make a significant difference nevertheless: “We’ll not raise a huge amount, but it will be a huge amount more than if we did it on our own.”
