Fermanagh man dies following 'medical incident' on Cuilcagh
Man in his 30s died after becoming ill on Cuilcagh Mountain
THE MAN who died on the Cavan side of Cuilcagh Mountain yesterday (Sunday), was from Fermanagh.
The North West Mountain Rescue Team and other emergency services were called out at approximately 10:25 am to an incident in the Cuilcagh Mountain area yesterday morning.
A spokesperson from NWMR said their team “assisted with the incident” and left the area just over an hour later at around 11.30 am.
Among the emergency services that attended were Ballyconnell Fire Brigade and the National Ambulance Service, Ballyconnell. A helicopter was deployed to the scene according to local residents.
Sadly, the man, who was in his 30s and from Roslea, Co Fermanagh, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was removed from the mountain for a post mortem.
A spokesperson in the Roslea parish office said no funeral arrangements for the local man have been made yet.
In a statement to the Celt, Gardaí said they attended a medical incident involving a man at Commas, Swanlibar, Co Cavan at approximately 9:45am on Sunday.
“The man became ill and subsequently passed away,” the statememt from An Garda Síochána said.
They also confimed the young man’s body was removed to Cavan mortuary for a post mortem examination to be carried out and the local coroner informed.
Officers say the results of the post mortem will determine the course of the Garda investigation.
The man is believed to have died as a result of a medical incident.
Cavan Councillor from the area, John Paul Feeley (FF) said he was “very sorry” to hear the news off the mountain yesterday and said he was thinking and praying for the young man’s families at this time.
Cllr Feeley also acknowledged the effort of emergency services who “came together” in a rescue effort.
