A special Silver Jubilee Mass was held in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Belturbet.

Fr Jason Murphy, a native of Belturbet, marked a significant milestone last Friday as he celebrated 25 years in the priesthood.

A special Silver Jubilee Mass was held in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Belturbet, where parishioners, friends, and well-wishers gathered to honour his remarkable service and dedication.

Fr Jason, currently the parish priest of Kiloughter near Redhills and Deputy Principal at Breifne College in Cavan Town, has played a vital role both in his parish and in education. Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB) extended their appreciation online, praising his “unwavering support” and describing him as a “cherished colleague” whose impact has been felt widely across the school and local community.

His pastoral journey began in St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth, where he was one of three seminarians featured in RTÉ’s ‘True Lives’ documentary series, which followed their path to priesthood. During his studies, Fr Jason was actively involved in outreach work with young people in Ballymun and served in schools and hospitals, experiences that shaped his compassionate approach to ministry.

Online tributes poured in to thank Fr Jason for his guidance and selfless commitment over the past 25 years. Many described him as an inspirational figure who has touched countless lives through his words, actions, and deep faith.
