Bans range from one game to 48 weeks
Bans ranging from 48 weeks to a one game suspension were handed down to individuals following an on-field clash that marred the end of the Knockbride-Butlersbridge Intermediate Football Championship match last month.
The O'Reilly Precast Round 3 fixture, which was played out at Kingspan Breffni on Sunday, August 24, ended in a draw (2-16 to 4-10).
The disciplinary measures were issued by the Competitions Control Committee (CCC) after the referee's report was assessed.
“Having carefully reviewed all the evidence available to them, and having sought responses from the two club involved, the CCC of Cavan GAA have issued proposed penalties to individuals from both clubs ranging from 48 weeks to a one game suspension,” confirmed a spokesperson for Cavan GAA confirmed early last Thursday (September 4).
Anyone faced with sanction had until 5pm the following day (Friday), September 5, to either accept the proposed penalty or request a hearing. The spokesperson subsequently confirmed to the Celt that a number of individuals had “exercised their right to appeal” by the deadline.
What unfolded towards the the end of the Knockbride-Butlersbridge game prompted the GAA Board to remind all clubs in the county of the “responsibilities” they signed up prior to the commencement of championship earlier this year.
“Only dedicated personnel” detailed on the access lists supplied by each participating club are “allowed entry to the pitch area” during championship matches, and clubs are “aware of their responsibilities” as outlined in the competition regulations.
