Hyland to put his name forward for U20 manager role

Former Cavan U21 and senior team manager Terry Hyland has declared his interest in applying for the position of Cavan U20 team manager.
The Lacken clubman stated that he has spoken to a number of county board officers to inform them of his interest and is intent on putting his name forward when the process gets underway.
“I expressed an interest back a number of weeks ago, I know they haven't got their format ready yet in terms of what they're going to do with it, perhaps they need to negotiate with the senior management because the way they're talking, they need a link, but I don't know what that link is,” Hyland said,
“But yes, I would be very interested in putting my name forward. I'm probably coming back to where I started but I always loved and enjoyed being involved with underage football. They may consider me or they may not, we have to wait and see.”
Hyland led Cavan to three Ulster U21 finals from 2010 to 2012, winning two and reaching the All-Ireland final in 2011. He went on to manage the Cavan and Leitrim senior football teams.
“It's going to go back down to the quality of the players coming through and the level of coaching they've got,” he said.
“We have to be fair and Peter Reilly came after me, we probably went through a five or six-year period where we had a good bunch of young players, who are still playing for Cavan. That has to go back down to the coaching they got at underage prior to that.
“We can bring them in, we can work with them, we can see what we have and see can we improve them - if we get the job. And if we don't, we'll back whoever is going to get the job.”
The county board confirmed some weeks back that the same committee which was in place to select the senior manager will be tasked with choosing the next U20 manager. The position has been vacant since Larry Reilly stepped down in early July.
County chairman Mark O’Rourke confirmed on August 26 that a strong link between the senior and U20 set-ups is a priority.
“I’m not going to say too much on the actual process at present,” O’Rourke said.
“Part of Dermot’s (McCabe) presentation and his vision for the county was that there will be a strong connection and cohesion between the U17s, U20s and senior team,” he added.
