MEET THE FINALISTS: EMERGING NEW BUSINESS

Having opened its doors in Cavan Town in March of last year, Luso’s has taken the pizza scene by storm in the town with its variety of sourdough and stone-baked pizzas made with the freshest ingredients.

The casual dining restaurant also provides succulent smash burgers made from 100% local dry-aged beef. Owners Ciaran McMahon and Paula McQuillan launched their business in March 2024 when they moved out of their food truck and into their restaurant located adjacent to the Black Horse Inn.

There you can complement your pizza or burger with the finest wines, craft beers and cocktails; meanwhile you can also avail of a full bar from the Black Horse Inn located at the front of the restaurant. Their mouthwatering selection of sides include skin on fries, loaded fries, cheesy garlic bread and more.

Friendly and helpful staff are on hand to look after you, and explain their ever-changing special dish.

Luso’s is home to all the classics - margarita, four cheese, meat feast, pepperoni and more. However, the team also change it up with a new blend of flavours on the menu each week to cater to all taste buds.

The week the Celt called, Ciaran had plans for an apple pizza special, while the one on the menu at the time of writing was pear and blue cheese.

“With blue cheese, you either love it or hate it. The people who order it tend to come back every week. If you don’t like blue cheese, you’re not going to go near it.

“We change one thing every week, either a burger special or a pizza special or an extra side. It changes week by week.”

Business is going good at the Cavan town restaurant, according to Ciaran. They now employ 11 members of staff and open their doors from Thursday to Sunday.

“Numbers are going up, it’s going in the right direction all the time and it is definitely getting busier.”

Meanwhile Ciaran is “delighted” with the nomination for this year’s Cavan Business & Tourism Awards.

“It’s great to get recognised, I wasn’t really expecting it.

“I was delighted that somebody took the time to nominate us.”
