A former bricklayer turned professional guide, Ronan is the founder of Irish Pike Fishing Guides - a business that has grown from a hobby into one of the most highly regarded angling experiences in the country.
Based in Cootehill, Ronan is at the heart of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands, a region famed for its rich angling heritage. With access to 365 lakes - “one for every day of the year,” as he proudly puts it - along with rivers and wetlands, the county is nothing short of a paradise for anglers.
Ronan’s guided tours are tailored to suit everyone, from total beginners to seasoned pros chasing their next big catch, or perhaps another shot at the one that got away.
Each trip offers more than just fishing - it’s a fully immersive outdoor experience that offers visitors the chance to explore pristine waters, target trophy-sized pike, and soak up the raw natural beauty of the surrounding region.

His guided experiences include all top-of-the-range gear, tackle, and equipment - all that visitors need to bring is warm clothing and a “sense of adventure”.
What sets Ronan apart is not just his deep local knowledge, but his elite credentials. He has represented Ireland internationally, earning two gold medals in matches against England and collecting 15 All-Ireland team medals over his competitive career.
Every outing with Irish Pike Fishing Guides includes hot lunches, local tales, and warm hospitality are all part of the day - creating a rich, rewarding experience both on and off the water. Clients have travelled from across Europe and as far afield as the US, with many returning year after year. Whether targeting trophy pike or exploring new waters, they’re drawn back by Ronan’s expertise and warm welcome.
In 2025, Ronan began offering tours year-round, expanding into perch and other species during the off-peak season. During peak months, he runs pike-fishing trips six days a week.
Beyond fishing, Ronan’s business is starting to play a vital role in supporting local tourism too - benefiting local restaurants, accommodation providers, and suppliers.
