Psychologist Shane Martin will speak at the event.

Cross-border conference on teen wellbeing

Co-operation Ireland will host a conference for those working with and supporting young people next Thursday (October 16).

Taking place at the Monaghan Peace Campus, ‘Better Together: Supporting OUR Generation’ will bring together youth practitioners from across Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland, to explore many of the issues that young people are facing today.

The event has been organised by members of the OUR Generation Project, which is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

The free one-day event offers an opportunity for professionals to share insights, network and collaborate, and hear from expert speakers in the fields of youth mental health and wellbeing.

The conference will feature a line-up of speakers, including Shane Martin who is a psychologist, bestselling author, and founder of Moodwatchers, Richard Hogan, a leading family psychotherapist, author of Parenting the Screenager and regular contributor to RTÉ’s Raised by the Village, and Owen O’Kane, one of the UK’s leading psychotherapists and a Sunday Times bestselling author of ‘Ten to Zen’ and ‘Addicted to Anxiety’.

Through their talks, each speaker will address many of the challenges affecting young people and explore themes such as resilience, anxiety and technology.

The conference will also include interactive workshops on topics such as trauma-informed practice, emotional regulation through creative mindfulness, responding to racism and cross-cultural understanding, and using sport to promote mental health.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided, and the event is open to anyone working with children and young people including youth workers, educators, volunteers and mental health professionals.
