Fatal domestic fire in Cavan

A fire at a domestic residence on the outskirts of Cavan town yesterday evening has resulted in a fatality.

Gardaí confirmed the news to The Anglo-Celt this morning.

"The body of one person has been recovered within the extensively damaged residence. This body remains at the scene at this time," a garda spokesperson stated.

"Gardaí received a report of a fire at a domestic residence in the Killygowan area of Co Cavan, at around 7:35pm on 6th October, 2025," the spokesperson confirmed.

The scene of the fire is "currently preserved for a technical examination."

The office of the local Coroner has been notified.

"Enquiries are ongoing," the garda spokesperson stated.

Meanwhile local fire services attended the scene and extinguished the fire.

A spokesperson from Cavan County Council confirmed units from both Cavan and Killeshandra fire services attended the scene of the fire at 7.28pm. They remained there until about 3.30am.

"At 19:28 hours on Monday evening 6th October, Cavan Town and Killeshandra Fire Brigades were alerted to a domestic fire at a property in Drummullan.

"On arrival, firefighters encountered a well-developed fire, with the roof structure already having collapsed and the first floor completely enveloped.

"Teams using breathing apparatus were committed to the building and brought the fire under control. Following a detailed search under challenging conditions, the remains of one deceased adult casualty were discovered upstairs in the building," the council spokesperson confirmed.

"All of Cavan County Fire service convey our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of the deceased."
