Over 450 gather for ICSH National Social Housing Conference
Largest gathering of stakeholders takes place at Slieve Russell.
The largest gathering of Irish housing stakeholders this year is underway in Cavan, as the Irish Council for Social Housing (ICSH) opens its National Social Housing Conference at the Slieve Russell Hotel this morning.
More than 450 delegates representing Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs), local authorities, state agencies, and other key organisations are attending the two-day event under the theme ‘Maintaining Momentum – Delivering Homes for All’.
The ICSH, the national federation for AHBs in Ireland, is hosting the conference in the lead-up to the anticipated publication of the government’s updated 'Housing for All' plan.
Speaking at the opening, ICSH Chief Executive Donal McManus highlighted the critical role AHBs continue to play in addressing Ireland’s housing needs: "Last year alone, AHBs delivered over 4,300 new social homes and more than 1,200 cost rental homes—accounting for 41% of total social housing output and 56% of all cost rental homes. The sector has significantly expanded its delivery capacity in recent years."
He added that the conference comes at a pivotal moment, ahead of the new National Housing Plan and the forthcoming AHB Strategic Plan. "Our members are uniquely placed to identify service gaps, understand demand, and propose targeted solutions. This year, we’re placing a particular focus on improving and expanding housing options for older people and those with disabilities.”
Mr. McManus also emphasised the importance of cross-sector collaboration.
“Our conferences offer a unique platform for all housing stakeholders—from residents to regulators—to share experiences, exchange ideas, and shape the future of housing in Ireland.”
The conference will also feature the announcement of the 2025 ICSH Community Housing Awards, sponsored by IPB Insurance. This year, 31 projects from across Ireland have been shortlisted, with award categories recognising excellence in all aspects of community housing. All shortlisted entries are eligible for the Public Choice Award, while one will be named the Overall Winner.
ICSH President Tina Donaghy praised the calibre of this year’s submissions.
“We received an incredible response, both in terms of the number and quality of entries. Our judges were looking for innovation, creativity, and dedication—and they found it in abundance. The work of our AHB members across the country is truly inspiring, and I wish all nominees the very best of luck.”
