Katja Mia has been announced as RTÉ's new 2FM weekend presenter.

She will replace Bláthnaid Treacy while she is on maternity leave, on Saturday and Sundays mornings from 9am to 12pm.

The show will feature music, competitions, as well as some fun, including the What's Wrong With Ye Quiz and the Pamper Hamper giveaway.

Speaking ahead of her first broadcast on Saturday, October 18th, Ms Mia said she was "absolutely buzzing" to join 2FM: "It’s always been a dream of mine to work on radio, and this opportunity has come at a perfect time in my career.

"I’m aware that I have massive boots to fill and that any new role comes with some learning curves, but I can assure 2FM listeners that we’ll have an absolute blast along the way."

Ms Mia is Katja Burundian-Irish presenter, best known for her appearances on Virgin Media's The Six O'Clock Show and Ireland AM.

Dan Healy, Head of RTÉ 2FM, said: "Katja is one of the new, seriously talented Irish stars.

"Saturday and Sunday mornings are hugely important to 2FM, and I’m certain that Katja will bring her own unique style and energy to the show."

According to the latest JNLR figures in August, RTÉ 2FM attracts 677,000 weekly listeners and has a 10.3 per cent share among 15 to 34-year-olds.
