Virginia CU – supports and promotes creativity

Virginia Credit Union recently launched its 2025 Credit Union Art Competition, which encourages local artists of all ages to take part in one of Ireland’s longest running and most inclusive art initiatives.

Now in its 42nd year, the Credit Union Art Competition continues to support and promote creativity at every stage of life. From early learners to lifelong artists, the competition celebrates the power of art to connect, inspire and bring communities together.

Virginia Credit Union believes in supporting not only financial wellbeing, but also personal growth and connection through community involvement.

The local branch receives over 900 entries annually and winners go forward for judging at regional and national level with the highlight being the National Awards ceremony annually in Croke Park.

In 2024, Virginia Credit Union was extremely proud to have four of its entries feature in the national finals with artwork by Zoe Stewart (age seven years and under), her brother A.J. Stewart (8-10 years), Anna Towell (14-17 years) and Jennifer Nulty (Adult). Anna’s entry won her category; while A.J. came runner-up in his category.

Supporting other local projects

Virginia Credit Union also supports educational, sporting and social initiatives locally through the following structures:

* Annual bursaries for first year students attending 3rd level, bursary for students undertaking a Masters programme and bursaries to support members completing apprenticeships;

* Our annual schools quiz is another highlight of the year with up to 30 primary school teams partaking; and

* We support local clubs and societies by way of sponsorships.

Virginia Credit Union has served the social and financial needs of its community for over 35 years. While many credit unions throughout the country have merged into larger entities and bank branches have closed their doors, Virginia Credit Union has remained independent and standalone and continues to have the personal member service at the forefront of its ethos.
