The missing Link in Killydoon
The need for a Local Link bus serving Killydoon and Mullahoran was raised at a meeting of the Ballyjamesduff Municipal District.
“From Gowna town to Bruskey through Killydoon, we have no bus stop. There is no way of getting in or out of Cavan or to the local towns,” Cllr Philip Brady pointed out.
He said he had approached Local Link - to no avail so far. “Other areas are all getting the Local Link and people are wondering why we are not,” Cllr Brady said.
Winston Bennett (FG) backed Brady’s motion, stating he had been aware of the situation for two years. He had also raised the matter with Local Link, but had heard nothing further.
The Council’s Senior Executive Engineer John McGahern said he too had been in contact with Local Link and was in the process of clarifying matters as there had been confusion about a pre-existing route.
According to Mr McGahern, a representative of Local Link had outlined that the “NTA need to establish the level or loss of service” and Local Link would confer with colleagues in Roscommon and Longford to determine demand for the bus service - also looking into a daily request service to Cavan from these counties. He agreed that a service route was cut off in this area.
Meanwhile, Cllr Trevor Smith (FG) - who supported Brady’s motion - acknowledged the “tremendous work of Local Link with solving the back-to-school-traffic” in Ballyjamesduff. He reported that the passenger numbers had exceeded the number of spaces for people travelling from Virginia through Ballyjamesduff to Cavan. “It was a huge problem last week, people were missing lectures and work in Cavan Town.”
However, he revealed that, after contacting Local Link, they had sorted it within a week by adding a bus for the morning shift.
