Carrick-on-Shannon named Ireland's tidiest town
This year’s competition drew a record-breaking 929 entries, the highest in its history since 1958.
Carrick-on-Shannon in Leitrim has been named Ireland’s Tidiest Town for 2025, also taking home the coveted title alongside Ireland’s Tidiest Small Town.
The announcement was made this afternoon (Friday, October 24), at the SuperValu TidyTowns Awards ceremony at Croke Park, Dublin, where 600 volunteers gathered to celebrate their communities, while thousands more watched online.
This year’s competition drew a record-breaking 929 entries, the highest in its history since 1958.
Among the other winners, Carraig Airt TidyTowns in County Donegal received the prestigious Gaeltacht Award, and Corofin TidyTowns in County Clare was recognised with the Young Persons in TidyTowns Award.
Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, praised Carrick-on-Shannon for its achievement, highlighting the extraordinary dedication of volunteers nationwide.
SuperValu, the competition’s main sponsor since 1991, was represented by Managing Director Luke Hanlon, who joined the Minister to announce the results.
Mr Hanlon commended Carrick-on-Shannon’s volunteers and the wider TidyTowns network, praising the 30,000 volunteers across 929 committees who together contributed over one million hours of work this year.
Other standout winners included Rosscarbery, County Cork as Ireland’s Tidiest Village, Dalkey, County Dublin as Ireland’s Tidiest Large Town, and Tralee, County Kerry as Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre.
In a major boost for community initiatives, Minister Calleary announced €1.5 million in funding to support the work of TidyTowns groups across the country.
Since 2017, the Department has invested over €12 million in local communities to enhance the places where people live, work, and visit.
