Welsh choir to perform in Cavan

Cavan Male Voice Choir is proud to host a very special concert at Hotel Kilmore on Tuesday, October 28, in aid of St. Christopher’s Hospice, featuring a performance by the renowned Morriston RFC Male Voice Choir from Swansea.

This musical collaboration began in 2018 during a Six Nations rugby trip to Wales. Rosie Morgan, a Welsh native living in Cavan and playing for Cavan Ladies RFC, arranged for the Cavan Male Voice Choir to meet and sing with the Morriston RFC Choir. Friendships were formed, but plans to reconnect were delayed by the pandemic. Now, Cavan has the pleasure of welcoming the Welsh choir on home soil.

Formed in 1979, the Morriston RFC Male Choir (Côr Meibion Clwb Rygbi Treforys) has delighted audiences for nearly 50 years, performing everything from traditional Welsh hymns to musical theatre and contemporary classics. They’ve graced stages across the UK and Europe, including the Royal Albert Hall, and will be among the performers at the Welsh Association of Male Choirs concert in Liverpool in 2026.

Choir Chairman Professor Duncan shared their enthusiasm: “Our decision to reach out to Cavan RFC Male Voice Choir was partly in response to having welcomed them to one of our weekly practices whilst they were on a visit to our neck of the woods and attending the Wales V Ireland 6 Nations match. We have been keen to re-connect with Cavan RFC Male Choir ever since and our aim is to build a closer bond between our two choirs. We are delighted to make what we hope to be the first of many visits to Cavan and the boys and our supporters are excited to be there.”

The Morriston RFC Choir will perform three concerts during their Irish tour- in Kildare (October 25), Cavan (28), and Drogheda (30).
