First Cavan-Monaghan result expected around 6pm
Connolly is set to become Ireland's tenth president.
The first result of the 2025 presidential election in Cavan-Monaghan is expected around 6pm.
With all 259 boxes checked, Heather Humphreys lead the polls in this constituency with 59.03%, followed by Catherine Connolly at 38% and Jim Gavin at 2.97%, with 10.92% of votes spoiled.
Nationally though Connolly is set to become Ireland's tenth president.
Around lunchtime, Fine Gael candidate Heather Humphreys officially conceded, expressing pride in her campaign, and also congratulating Connolly, who she acknowledged will be Ireland's next president.
“I visited every county and gave it everything. But I enjoyed it,” she said. “Politics is about putting your name on the ballot—if you win, you win; if not, it’s rejection. I knew what I was doing, and I’m glad I did it.”
