Heather’s home support holds strong

Despite the inevitable outcome, Heather Humphreys can take comfort knowing that voters closest to home turned out in impressive numbers.

While reports point to a landslide overall for the Left-alliance-backed Independent Catherine Connolly, Cavan-Monaghan still appears set to buck the trend, with strong local support bolstering Humphreys effort.

In her home village of Drum, where turnout reached an extraordinary 73%, Humphreys secured 241 votes in a single box. In nearby Killevan, one box recorded 240 votes for her, while another returned 203.

At St Michael’s in Cootehill, all seven ballot boxes leaned in Humphreys’ favour, with none returning fewer than 100 votes for her.
