North Monaghan voter casts ballot for Trump

254 of 259 ballot boxes tallied.

A local voter from North Monaghan spoiled their vote by casting a ballot for Donald Trump in the Irish presidential election.

While a surprising choice, POTUS does have Irish links outside of his golf course- in particular Dorothy Curry, a Belturbet woman who was nanny to Trump’s children and described as a nurturing force and stabilising influence in their lives.

Curry worked for the Trump family for over 30 years and the US President's children Donald Jr. and Eric spent significant time in Ireland while growing up.

Another local link, though a much less direct connection, is the that Amy Coney Barrett, who was nominated to the Supreme Court by Trump, and who has maternal ancestors from Ballyconnell.

By 12:30 pm, with 254 of 259 ballot boxes tallied, Heather Humphreys leads with 58.75%, Catherine Connolly trails at 38.29%, and Jim Gavin registers 2.97%, while 11.02% of votes are spoiled.
