Spoiled votes under review

First result of the 2025 presidential election in Cavan-Monaghan is expected around 6pm.

Returning Officer Joe Smith is currently adjudicating over the spoiled votes cast this election across Cavan and Monaghan.

Preliminary tallies indicate that nearly 11% of the total vote has been spoiled.

With all 259 ballot boxes counted, Heather Humphreys is leading with 59.03%, followed by Catherine Connolly at 38% and Jim Gavin with 2.97%. The proportion of spoiled votes stands at 10.92%.

Earlier today, around lunchtime, Fine Gael candidate Heather Humphreys officially conceded the race.

She expressed pride in her campaign and congratulated Catherine Connolly, acknowledging her as Ireland’s next president.
