Drogheda IPAS centre attackers must be held to account – Carthy

A local Sinn Féin TD has said that those who attacked an IPAS centre in Drogheda must be held to account.

A number of people had to be rescued from the building in Drogheda, Co Louth, on Friday night. It has been reported the people rescued included four children, one of which was a baby.

Deputy Matt Carthy said that there could be no justification for the appalling actions that put the lives of those living in the centre at risk.

“The appalling arson attack on the International Protection Centre in Drogheda could have easily resulted in death and serious injuries. There can be no excuse for such action and those involved must be held to account," said the Sinn Féin spokesmen on Justice, Home Affairs and Migration.

“This was clearly a very frightening ordeal for those impacted. I want to commend the Fire Service for rescuing people, including small children, from this fire and preventing lives from being lost.

“The Gardaí must now be allowed to do their job and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.”
