Cllrs wants clarity on dental PRSI hold-out
Fine Gael's T.P. O'Reilly has voiced concerns over the growing number of dentists no longer offering treatments under the PRSI scheme.
Speaking at the October monthly meeting of Cavan County Council, the Virginia-based elected representative tabled a motion calling on the council to contact the HSE for an explanation, citing the need for “clarity” on the issue, which he said is impacting access to essential dental care for PRSI-qualified patients.
The Dental Treatment Benefit Scheme, funded through PRSI contributions, entitles qualified individuals to subsidised dental care. However, in recent years, many dentists have withdrawn from the scheme, citing low reimbursement rates and bureaucratic issues. The decline in availability has raised worries among both patients and public representatives.
There was support for his motion from within the chamber, with the local authority to also write to the Minister for Health also seeking answers.
