'Do Not Consume' water notice issued for Dernakesh
A 'Do Not Consume' notice has been issued with immediate effect for the Dernakesh Group Water Supply Scheme with around 1,000 customers impacted.
The decision was made by Cavan County Council following consultation with the Health Service Executive (HSE).
Customers on this group water scheme are reminded that this is a 'Do Not Consume' notice and boiling your water will not make it safe to drink/consume.
Those impacted are asked to use an alternative safe source of drinking water, such as bottled water, for the following:
•Drinking
•Preparing drinks made with water
•Cooking food
•Food preparation including washing and preparation of salads and similar foods, which are not cooked prior to eating
•Brushing of teeth and/or gargling
•Making of ice. However, ensure you first discard all existing ice cubes in fridges and freezers and filtered water in fridges
Alternative supply
Alternative supply is being provided from a tanker beside Gallonray House, Maudabawn, Co Cavan.
A spokesperson from the local authority reminded: "Remember to boil this water from the tanker before use for drinking or for food preparation. Please pass this information to your neighbours and friends".
