A busy year for Cllr Rogers

Aontú Cllr Adrian Rogers said it has been a “different” year for him after his co-option to Senator Sarah O’Reilly’s council seat in May.

“I’m just starting to find my feet now but I have a good mentor in Sarah,” he told the Celt.

He has enjoyed working on issues with people in the Bailieborough-Cootehill municipal district area, and stressed that he is aways available to help people.

“It’s been busy,” he says of the last few months. “I knew what I was letting myself in for, you can get phone calls at 9am in the morning or twelve at night with different issues.”

Over the past few months and looking towards the New Year, Cllr Rogers says roads have been and will continue to be a priority. He hopes to “keep the pressure on” to get “more money” to maintain the roads in the county.

“There’s so many roads in a bad state,” he lamented. Flooding in the area was also an issue raised by the Knockbride councillor recently.

He is proud to see that the area is being served by more bus routes, with the 178 local link route now serving the Cootehill, Canningstown, Bailiebrough and Kells area. The 172 from Cootehill to Virginia via Shercock and Bailieborough has also been welcome in the area.

While Senator Sarah O’Reilly started work on these projects, Cllr Rogers is proud to see the routes coming to fruition. He also said the Cavan to Dundalk service is a “very good service”.

As well as his duties on Cavan County Council, Adrian Rogers is also the proprietor at The Bridge Bar in Canningstown, which has a massive line up of entertainment and Christmas party nights throughout the festive period.

He considers himself as “one of the lucky ones” when it comes to the pub business. Although he seeks a lot of pubs closing, he said his own business is “busy”.

“The food is going really well,” he said, adding that those availing of the Christmas party night deal will have a full menu with starters, options such as steak, turkey and ham, fish or chicken to choose from as a main course, dessert, tea and coffee and a great night’s entertainment afterwards.

One of their party nights, December 12, has nearly booked out already and he welcomes more business, community groups and individuals to give him a call to arrange their night. As well a three-course dinner, they can also provide options such as finger food, platters and more.

“We can have a menu to suit anyone, if there’s someone who wants a buffet we can do that too,” he added.

The Bridge Tavern will have entertainment during weekends throughout December, and also plans to host a Christmas jumper night with a prize for the best jumper.
