The day the Celt calls, a granddaughter and grandmother are sitting on the cosy chairs waiting for grandad to come out of one of the new spacious changing rooms. When he does emerge in a pair of navy chinos and a matching shirt, there’s smiles and thumbs up all-round. With the help of Lorraine Boyle’s keen eye, the three head off delighted with their purchases.

Between picking out sizes and colours for customers, it’s a while before a member of the team can step into a photo for this feature - a great complaint and a testament to their busy store.

“We’ve been through good and bad times, and at the moment it’s good,” Patrick Boyle confirms.

Boyle for Men has been trading in Cootehill since October 1966, with the shop started by his father Patsy who sadly passed two years ago, and his mum Margaret Boyle.

They cater to men from aged sixteen years upwards for all occasions, with two floors filled with occasion and casual wear options. Whether it’s a trendy coat or a new pair of dress shoes that’s on the Christmas wish list, the chances are Boyle for Men will have just what you’re looking for.

Boyle for Men are very “brand-focused”, evident in the number of high-end labels on display around the store - Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Barbour, Farah Vintage, Columbia.”In our trade you always have to be adding brands and it’s proven very successful,” Patrick explains.

Boyle for Men are “very much Christmas focused” when helping ladies choose the perfect gift for their partners, fathers, sons and brothers.

“It’s a great time to be working in the shop, it’s great craic,” says Patrick of the festive period, describing how he grew up in retail and “a lot” of the staff there have been with them long-term.

Their Christmas club started in October. It allows customers to secure any item with a small deposit, a facility “a lot” of people use. “People are out shopping earlier,” Patrick finds.

Boyle for Men also trade online, which allows people to browse from home and avail of their click and collect service. They open every Sunday throughout December, while they also have extended hours during the pre-Christmas period.
