Full house to cheer on Annie!
As the curtain opens on Virginia College’s eagerly anticipated production of Annie this week, the Celt caught up with Madelina Ormiston who stars as Annie, and Ali Giusti, who is the musical directors alongside Tracy Talbot.
Celt: What does this musical mean for the school?
Ali Giusti: Annie has brought a brilliant buzz to Virginia College - it’s a chance for students from every year group to come together and show off their talents. It really highlights the creativity and community spirit that makes our school special.
Celt: Why do you think Annie’s such a popular and timeless show?
Madelina Ormiston: It’s a story about hope, friendship, and never giving up — things everyone can relate to, no matter what age you are.
Celt: Tell us about the experience bringing young actors along through rehearsals – it must be daunting yet rewarding?
Ali: It’s been wonderful watching students grow in confidence. From first years finding their voice to seniors mentoring younger castmates, the teamwork and enthusiasm have been incredible to see.
Celt: Which is your favourite of the songs to perform?
Madelina: Tomorrow is definitely my favourite — it’s so positive and the audience always joins in. It’s an amazing feeling to sing it on stage!
Celt: How does it feel to perform on the stage of the Ramor Theatre?
Madelina: It’s unbelievable! Performing in a real theatre with proper lights and sound feels so professional. It’s an experience I’ll never forget.
Celt: What can people heading along to the show expect?
Ali: They can expect an energetic, heartwarming show full of great songs, colourful characters, and lots of laughter. Our students have poured their hearts into it — it’s a night not to be missed!
Celt: Are there any tickets to be got?
Ali: Tickets are sold out! It is so wonderful that our students get to perform for five nights with a full house cheering them on!
