A blooming business on Bridge Street

Rainbow Flowers by Vaiva is a fitting name for what may be one of the most colourful shops in Cavan.

Tree branches decorated by hundreds of lights and Christmas decorations immediately greet Vaiva’s customers, as does the scent of several varieties of flowers sitting beneath it. Owner Vaiva Martisiene, which means rainbow in her native language, has plenty of bouquet arrangements ready to take home; a collection which creates a sea of pink, white, purple, red, orange, green, lilac in the store.

Opening her business in October last year, Vaiva noticed that there was no florist in the county town and decided to set herself the challenge of opening her own shop. “It’s the first year but everything is actually going better than I expected,” she tells the Celt. The year has been a success and, leading into Christmas, this trend is continuing. The Lithuanian native has had orders coming in for the festive period since September. She creates door wreaths, table centres, fresh flower grave arrangements, and eye-catching table centre pieces. The store also has a selection of good quality and longlasting artificial arrangements to choose from.

Vaiva sources her fresh flowers from Holland, and gets her greenery and some other giftware in the store from Ireland. Meanwhile she also has home scent gift sets made in Lithuania and some Scandinavian countries, bringing the scents from her own home to yours.

“I like to have what other shops don’t have,” she explains.

There are also “loads” of Christmas decorations for those looking for something different for the tree this year.

Another aspect of Vaiva’s blooming flower business is creating arrangements for funerals, weddings, birthdays, Christmas, Mothers’ Day or simply just a nice bouquet for yourself. With ten years of experience, Vaiva can create flower arrangements for any occasion. Meanwhile Asta Tunyliene, who works alongside her, has thirty years’ experience in floristry. While she has a constant supply of bouquets in-store, Vaiva will stop taking orders for Christmas arrangements around mid-December, and urges people to place their seasonal orders in good time to avoid disappointment. Rainbow Flowers also provides a next day delivery service where it is needed.

“We have different prices and different styles of flowers,” she urges, telling people to call in and have a browse.
