Oireachtas Committee on Property Market Reform

The informal cross-party Oireachtas Committee on Property Market Reform, chaired by Senator Robbie Gallagher, gathered for its final meeting of the year last week with most useful engagement from representatives from across the country.

The committee provides a platform for members of the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (IPAV) to engage with Oireachtas members, with the goal of advancing informed policy discussions on property market reform.

With a welcome address from IPAV CEO, Genevieve McGuirk, discussion points included new house and apartment delivery, challenges and opportunities. Donald MacDonald, director, Hooke, was among the contributors; while Sybil Berne, planner, MacCabe Durney Barnes, spoke on the topic of 'Conflicted messaging, we need a planning spring clean'.

Presentations from the insightful guest speakers were followed by a question-and-answer session with TDs, senators, and attendees.

Thanking the IPAV and those attending, Senator Gallagher says that the committee provides a valuable opportunity for collaboration to explore the constraints and opportunities in the residential development and apartment market.
