Dramatic society announces new play

Belturbet Dramatic Society is set to stage The Tangler in Court, a lively one-act play by the late Brendan McCann. The announcement follows the society’s well-attended AGM, which highlighted the ongoing enthusiasm for local drama and community arts in Belturbet and surrounding areas. The meeting welcomed several newcomers, both on stage and behind the scenes, with hopes that participation will continue to grow in the months ahead.

Since its foundation in 1978, Belturbet Dramatic Society has produced plays locally and on the All-Ireland drama circuit. Its debut production, Perry Como’s Leaving Town, also written by Brendan McCann, won the All-Ireland award. A highlight of the AGM was long-serving member Paddy O’Reilly presenting the original trophy from that first-winning production, celebrating the society’s rich history.

A new committee has been elected for the coming year. Paddy O’Reilly takes on the role of honorary president, with Francine O’Reilly and Joe Henry as co-chairs. Emer Henry and Tony Henry will serve as joint secretaries, while Nora Bartley and Kevin McCann are appointed treasurers. Mark Connolly, Cormac McCann, and Liz McDermott will act as PROs.
