Dozens still without power after Storm Bram
Follows a day of severe conditions flagged by Met Éireann’s Status Orange and Yellow weather warnings.
Dozens of households and businesses across Cavan remained without power after Storm Bram battered much of the country on Tuesday.
Around 20 customers in Errigal, between Stradone and Cootehill, are still affected, with engineers estimating that electricity would not be restored until 5pm. In Baileborough, 82 homes and businesses face blackout, expected to last until midday, while a further 79 customers east of Kingscourt were told they may be without supply until around 7pm.
The widespread outages followed a day of severe conditions flagged by Met Éireann’s Status Orange and Yellow weather warnings.
Storm Bram’s powerful winds and heavy rain caused significant damage to the electricity network, leaving ESB Networks crews facing difficult repair efforts throughout the day.
Teams from ESB Networks and partner contractors worked continuously to assess the damage, secure hazardous areas, and restore service where possible.
“We acknowledge the disruption to family and commercial life this causes and thank impacted customers for their patience as our crews work to safely restore power,” an ESB spokesperson said.
Updated restoration times, they added, would be published on PowerCheck.ie as assessments continued.
The utility provider also issued a strong safety warning, urging the public to stay well clear of any fallen wires or damaged lines, stressing that such equipment is live and extremely dangerous. Any sightings of damage should be reported immediately by calling 1800 372 999.
Storm Bram left its mark across the country, bringing flooding, fallen trees, and travel disruption as it swept inland. Winds reached 113km/h at Roches Point in Cork, while Status Yellow wind warnings remained in place for Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo until midnight.
Flooding and debris were reported in several areas—particularly in the south of the country, where the storm first made landfall—adding to the challenges faced by emergency and repair crews throughout the day.
