Sinn Féin responds to Kenova final report

Sinn Féin’s John Finucane has said the publication of the Kenova Final Report, alongside reports on Operations Denton, Mizzenmast, and Turma, provides further confirmation of collusion, criminality, and cover-up by the British state.

The reports were published in Belfast on Tuesday.

Paying tribute to the families affected, Mr Finucane said: “My thoughts are with those who lost loved ones and those campaigning for truth and justice. Today is about them. Their courage in engaging with a process that often meant reliving the worst moments of their lives is remarkable.”

He accused British state agencies, including MI5, of deliberately undermining Operation Kenova to block the truth. “Operation Denton confirms collusion between British state actors and loyalists in a campaign of systemic murder,” Mr Finucane added.

The Sinn Féin representative stressed that the reports expose criminality and cover-up at the highest levels of the British state, showing repeated breaches of the law.

“By withholding the truth, British state actors have cast doubt on their approach to dealing with the past under proposed new Legacy Act mechanisms. Families striving for truth and justice will understandably be extremely concerned,” he said.

Mr Finucane called for a fully independent, Article 2 Human Rights-compliant, victim-centred legacy process that can command the confidence of affected families, stressing that only such a process can ensure accountability and justice.
