Ramor United appeal to Ulster as U20 Championship faces delay

GAA news

The dispute over the Ramor United v Gowna U20 match, which caused the postponement of the semi-finals of the U20 Division 1 Championship, is still rumbling on, with no definite indication yet as to when the competition will be able to proceed.

The clubs met on Tuesday, November 25 on the 3G pitch at Kingspan Breffni. Referee Martin Sexton’s report had Gowna winning the match (3-11 to 2-13) but Ramor believed that the opposite was the case and that they, Ramor, had won by a point.

They subsequently appealed the result to Cavan’s Competition Controls Committee (CCC) but the CCC rejected the appeal and upheld the result.

The match was not vidoed and the rule states that the referee’s report “shall be presumed to be correct in all factual matters and may only be rebutted where unedited video or other compelling evidence contradicts it”.

It is understood Ramor’s appeal centred around both clubs’ social media timelines.

Ramor subsequently opted to appeal the decision to the Ulster Hearings committee.

The Anglo-Celt understands the hearing will take place in the coming days.

If Ramor’s appeal is unsuccessful, the competition may proceed, with Gowna meeting Killygarry and Mullahoran taking on Crosserlough in the semis.

However, Ramor may win the appeal or, in the event of losing it, could choose to take it to the Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA). Either way, it seems unlikely at this stage that the U20 Division 1 Championship will be completed this side of Christmas - or maybe even in 2025 at all.
