Accident claims life of man in his 60s

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on Old Cross Square, Monaghan which occurred today, Saturday, December 13.

Shortly after 10.15am, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the collision, involving a lorry and a pedestrian.

The male pedestrian, aged in his 60s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The coroner was notified and male’s body has since been removed to Monaghan mortuary where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

No other injuries were reported.

The scene was examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were traveling in the area of Old Cross Square, Monaghan between 10-10.30am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
