Strengthening the fabric of our county - Cllr Brady

As I reflect on the year 2025, I am filled with pride in the progress our county has made, alongside a renewed commitment to tackling the challenges ahead. This has been a year of significant change and development, but also one where critical issues have come to the forefront that need our collective attention.

In June, I was honoured to be elected Cathoirleach of the Cavan/Belturbet Municipal District. It’s a role that allows me to advocate for the people of this district and ensure that your concerns are heard and addressed. I am grateful for the trust and support I have received, and I look forward to continuing to work on your behalf.

One of the major achievements of the year has been the building of new social housing by Cavan County Council in our district. This much-needed development will provide homes for families who have long been waiting for affordable housing and represents real progress in addressing local housing needs.

However, there are ongoing issues that require urgent attention. The lack of adequate services for children with disabilities remains a serious concern. Many families are struggling due to insufficient support and resources, and this must be addressed.

Road safety also continues to be an issue, particularly with speeding and the increased use of e-scooters. While they can be a convenient mode of transport, they pose a danger when used irresponsibly. I urge all users to be mindful of safety regulations. In addition, speed continues to be a concern on our local roads. Greater awareness, enforcement, and traffic management are needed, along with solutions to congestion around our towns.

On a more positive note, continued investment by Cavan County Council in parks, roads, footpaths, and community projects - from The Arts Council to festivals and socical services - has made a real difference to residents and strengthened the fabric of our county.

Looking forward, I remain committed to working with the dedicated staff of Cavan County Council to address challenges and build a brighter future for Cavan.
