Record entry at Handball Championship
The 19th annual Cavan 40x20 Singles Handball Championship took place on the weekend before last at Kingscourt HC, with 102 entrants across adult and juvenile grades.
Pride of place went to Ben Devlin, who defeated defending champion Joe Dillon in the final on a 15-7, 15-11 scoreline in a match played before a large crowd.
Kingscourt club dominated the weekend and as well as Senior, also won the Junior B Singles, with Sean Óg Gargan defeating Virginia’s Paddy O’Reilly in straight games.
The juvenile championships ran on Saturday and Sunday, with a very high standard in some grades and all keenly contested. Ulster U12 champion Breffni McHugh beat a gallant Ryan Flood in U12 Singles, Max Finnegan defeated clubmate Sean Smith in the U14 final and Andzejs Urtans was the U16 winner.
